Beavers

wednsday thursday

Welcome to Llanishen and Lisvane beaver scouts. In 1986 the beavers became an official section of the scout movement. Both boys and girls aged six and over can become members of the beaver colony.

After attending for a couple of week’s beavers are invested during a short ceremony where they are asked to make there promise- “I promise to do my best, to be king and helpful and to love god.” During this ceremony beaver’s welcome certificate, log book and also the group red/black neckerchief. Parents are invited to attend.

The beaver motto is “fun and friends” and with this in mind we aim to provide an exiting opportunity to make new friends, develop new skills, learn to respect others and the world around them. These activities are sometimes undertaken individually or in groups.

We are very fortunate to have a large field adjacent to the hall which we use whenever possible. During the summer to do for example bug hunts, leaf printing, wide games, using a compass, putting up tents, etc. and in the winter to look at stars.

Outside visits have included the fire station, police station, road safety center, western mail printing works, pets at home and a number of visits to the local woodlands pond dipping accompanied by the park ranger.

We have also had visitors to our meetings to enable beavers to complete badges, a community police officer, St. Johns ambulance, dentist, nurse and Ti chi instructor.

There are numerous other fun activities we undertake- cooking, painting, junk modeling, tying knot and food tasting.

Hopefully the above information has given you a brief insight into what the beaver colony has to offer and will encourage you to start your adventure in the scouting movement.

The Beaver Scout Promise
